REAL Models in the Black Community

It has been my opinion that we all are born with the pre-disposition to want to have someone to look up to, someone to show us the way when we become lost, and someone that sees the best in us when we can’t see the best in ourselves. That person who shows us what “doing the right thing” looks like, what success looks like and how to find our own path. All too often, in the young lives of those who need them the most, this individual or individuals is seemingly nowhere to be found forcing them to look towards “the next best thing” the only other thing that has consistently played a role in their lives, media and the products of their environment.

Bloomberg Ratchets up War on Obesity: Proposes Ban on Soda

In the fight against obesity, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposes a ban on soda. The new policy, if approved by the city’s Board of health later this month, will prevent sodas over 16 oz from being offered to consumers. The legislation will enforce the ban by imposing $200.00 fines to businesses that do not comply. Considering the fact that the Board of Health was appointed by Bloomberg himself, the chances of it’s approval are pretty high. The days of 7Eleven’s “Big Gulp” will be a thing of the past. This appears to be, just as the article put it, Bloomberg “flexing” the governments regulatory muscle. Has Michael Bloomberg taken his authority to far? I think not.

The study conducted by The Texas Health science center proves the fact that the number one sugar contributor was sugary drinks, soda in particular. The study determined that Americans drinking 1-3 cans of soda daily had a %33 increase in likelihood of future obesity. The paradigm is this, as the obesity rate climbs, the more and more we spend on health care. Our nation spends an estimate of $79 Billion annually on health care about half of that amount is due to the complications of Obese citizens. These are tax dollars being spent to continue funding programs like medicaid that provide the funds to care for these individuals.

Fathers, Mentors, Brothers, MEN alike this is a call to ACTION! What we as African American MEN must understand is the true magnitude of influence we have on young boys. We all are born with the pre-disposition to want to look up to someone, to have that image of what “The right thing to do” is readily available. Don’t try to make a difference, BE the difference in the lives of these young brothers! Like Father, Like Son

A very interesting image I came across earlier. To me, this image is an expression of what the “The Black Relationship” should be.

Don Draper: Blues Man

Well the suit that he wore is my favorite suit that I designed for him, custom made for Jon Hamm/Don Draper. Don Draper is an ultra-powerful, confident, and mysterious man and that scene was all about a powerful pitch that really requires him to be in a suit that could really tell that story.
As far as the tie, it’s one of my favorite ties. There are very specific moments where I have Don Draper wear accents of blue. That color blue in a simple, diagonal stripe is very strong and does have a feeling of confidence to it without being harsh or off-putting. The whole Jaguar pitch is about enticing and seducing these guys and Don talks about owning beauty, and all these elements of beauty, and I think that tie really says it all. - Janie Bryant, Mad Men Costume Designer

Never judge a book by its cover, read it first ! You would be
surprised at the substance of character and how unique a person is if only you took the time to read between the lines.
